Your Coverage, Your Care
We want your path to healing to begin with clarity, not confusion. HERWC is currently in-network with CareFirst/BCBS, Optum, & United Healthcare, ensuring that you can utilize your insurance coverage effectively for our mental health services. Before your first session, we ask that you take a moment to contact your insurance provider to confirm your mental health benefits and any out-of-pocket costs.
Clients are responsible for any balances not covered by insurance, regardless of the reason, including those opting for self-pay rates. We believe that understanding your benefits is an important part of advocating for yourself, and we're here to support you every step of the way.
Benefits of self-pay
Choosing to pay out of pocket for mental health services is a decision that comes with some meaningful advantages. When you rely on insurance coverage, your care is subject to the approval of your insurance company. This means that the number of sessions you receive, the frequency of your appointments, the length of your treatment, and more can be influenced by what your insurer deems 'medically necessary.' Insurance companies are not mental health professionals, yet their policies can significantly shape the care you receive.
Self-pay clients, on the other hand, experience a greater degree of autonomy over their own healing journey. You and your therapist, rather than your insurance company, decide what your treatment looks like, how often you meet, and how long you stay in care. There are no outside approvals required and no session limits standing between you and the support you need.
Self-pay also offers an added layer of privacy. When insurance is billed, your diagnosis and treatment records become accessible to your insurance company and may appear in databases that could potentially impact future coverage or other benefits. Paying out of pocket keeps your mental health care between you and your provider, where it belongs.
We offer the following self-pay rates:
- Diagnostic Evaluation (Intake): $175
- Couples/Marriage Counseling: $175
- Individual Session (60 minutes): $150
- Individual Session (45 minutes): $125
Your healing deserves to be driven by your needs, not a coverage policy. If you have questions about whether self-pay might be the right fit for you, we are happy to discuss further.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) intensives condense the standard weekly-session model into focused, extended blocks of time dedicated entirely to processing a specific trauma or issue(s). Rather than spreading treatment across months of hour-long sessions, an intensive format allows for deeper, uninterrupted processing without the momentum loss that can come from stopping and restarting week to week.
This approach often leads to faster symptom relief, greater breakthroughs, and a more efficient path toward healing, making it a good fit for clients who want focused, accelerated progress or who have a specific issue they're ready to work through.
EMDR Intensives are provided in person only, and must be planned & scheduled in advanced.
